Shabbat Shacharit Amidah

The Amidah consists musically of two bigger blocks:

  • Passages 1-3 (they are called: Avot veImahot [patriarchs and matriarchs; Gevurot [mighty deeds] and Kedushat haShem [the sanctity of God]
  • Passages 4-7 (they are called: Kedushat haYom [the sanctity of the day]; Avodah [the service]; Hodaah [ Thanks]; Birkat Shalom [Prayer for Peace].

The first part (1-3a) are chanted in Adonai Malach Mode with specific fixed motives. The best is to learn this a if it were a tune.
The second part (3b-7) is chanted on Shabbat morning in Ahavah Rabbah Mode.
